BBC 2.0 is on its Way

 Many people seem unaware that one of the best loved and most popular sites on the internet is currently receiving a major redesign. In a bid to become more of a social networking site, the BBC are trying to muscle in on the fiercest battleground on the internet today.

The launch date is yet to be confirmed, but the BBC has been sitting on this design for the best part of six months now.  So, to the new BBC website:

This design won a competition held in the summer of 2006 (it’s by FF Ecosystem - I’d link to the buggers but I can’t find them anywhere).



So this is how the BBC website will look soon.  On a personal note, I love the idea of the slide bar, but I think the rest of the site is rather messy and poorly laid out.  Pretty uninspiring don’t you think?

From a design point of view, I’m not sure anyone really got to grips with what the BBC could be - but as an avid BBC website user, I’m excited about what will undoubtedly be an important internet event.
